“And so, what was President Xi saying yesterday?”
- Bob Woodward
“Oh, we were talking mostly about the virus. And I think he’s going to have it in good shape, but you know, it’s a very tricky situation. It’s… “
- President Trump
“Indeed it is.”
“It goes, it goes through air, Bob. that’s always tougher than the touch. You know, the touch, you don’t have to touch things. Right? But the air, you just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed. And so, that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than your, you know, your, even your strenuous flus. You know, people don’t realize, we lose 25,000, 30,000 people a year here. Who would ever think that right?”
“I know, it’s much forgotten.”
“I mean, it’s pretty amazing. “
“What are you able to do for…”
“And then I said, well, is that the same thing?”
“This is more deadly. This is five per, you know, this is five percent versus one percent and less than one percent. You know? So this is deadly stuff.”
“Now it’s turning out that it’s not just old people, Bob. but just today and, and yesterday, some startling facts came out. It’s not just old, older…”
“Young people too, plenty of young people. We’re looking at what’s going on in…”
“So, give me, a moment of talking to somebody, going through this with Fauci or somebody who kind of, it caused a pivot in your mind because it’s clear, just from what’s on the public record that you went through a pivot on this to, “Oh my God, the gravity is almost inexplicable and unexplainable.”
“Well, Bob, really, to be honest with you…”
“Sure, I want you to be.”
“I wanted to… I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”
Wow. Umm… yeah. I remember Americans not panicking when they were fighting over toilet paper and Clorox products in grocery stores.
This was a recording of an interview Donald Trump did with Bob Woodward. What this means is that Trump knew the dangers of Covid-19 before there were major outbreaks across the nation. He knew that the virus was much more contagious and deadly than the flu, and instead of warning the people, and giving this vital information during his press briefings, he kept repeating his rhetoric that the coronavirus will disappear, constantly downplaying the virus.
That, and all of his other claims about coronavirus, were lies, and he flat out admitted to lying in this interview. The CDC warned him about this virus, Dr. Fauci warned him, Dr. Birx, and National Security Advisor Robert O’ Brian warned him, saying “This will be the biggest national security threat you face in your presidency.” Trump chose to ignore it, because “I don’t want to create a panic”. And because he downplayed it, thousands across the U.S. have downplayed Covid-19.
And because of that, thousands of lives that could have, would have, and should have been saved, were lost. Now we are at 6.5 million infections (⅕ of total cases globally) and 194,000 deaths (⅕ of the global death toll) from Covid, and God help us we don’t know how high this number is going to go. We don’t know when we will be able to open up again. We don’t know when we will be able to go outside without needing to wear a mask. And sadly, as other countries are going back to normal due to good government responses to covid, we don’t know when we will go back to normal here in America.
The current President and his administration do not care about the pandemic or what the CDC says. They only care about their reelection in November. It is up to us, the people, to take initiative. It’s up to us to take this virus seriously, and follow what Fauci and the CDC recommend, to save lives, and hopefully soon get back to normal.
