NBA Returns on a Seventy-Two Game Season

2019-2020 NBA Schedule Preview: A Winner Will Be Crowned

It has just been a month since the NBA champions LA Lakers have been crowned and a new season is about to go underway. The league announced that it will be making its return on the 22nd of December, 2020 on a seventy-two game season. They are although unsure on where the teams are going to play. If they’re gonna play in the bubble or are they going to play in regular arenas like they used too. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said that if the league decides to play in arenas like they used too, travel should be limited from state to state. It is uncertain if the league will allow fans in arenas. Several insiders although expressed concern about playing in another “bubble” since players have been away from their families for too long and that players have made too much of a sacrifice, leaving their families from July to October in times like these.

There have although been players such as Danny Green that opposed the idea of an NBA restart in December saying, “If we start in December, I think most guys [are like] ‘I’m not going to be there… to have that quick of a restart, I wouldn’t expect [LeBron] to be there for the 1st month of the season.(Link)” The NBA players association January 18, 2022 as the return date of the NBA as many players were hesitant to resume right before Christmas and New Year. The financial incentives given to all players ultimately made the players accept the December 22 proposal. Teams such as the Warriors and Nets have although been eager to play since they are legit contenders who could make it far in the league.

The Warriors are getting Steph and Klay after injuries kept them from playing last year. They also have the number two pick and a great supporting cast in Wiggins and Draymond. The Nets on the other hand get back Kyrie and superstar Kevin Durant as well as an amazing coaching staff under former MVP, Steve Nash. The Miami Heat are also hungry for vengeance. After losing to the Lakers in the finals, the Heat are expected to make free agency moves that could change the face of the league.

The return of the NBA just proves how much they care to provide entertainment to the millions of people watching them. It proves how great of an organization the NBA is and the willingness of the players to provide entertainment to the fans in these times is something we should all appreciate.
