In early April, an unedited bathing suit photo of Khloé Kardashian was posted accidentally by an assistant while the family was on vacation in Palm Springs, CA. The photo was of her beside the pool in a bathing suit, with no filters or effects added to it. Fan pages were soon able to get a hold of this photo, and it started to spread like wildfires all over social media.
As this photo began to spread, the accounts that had posted the photo were being told to take it down. Her team was willing to take legal action to make sure that this photo was erased from the internet. Tracy Romulus, the chief marketing officer of KKW (Kim Kardashian West Beauty) spoke out about the photo. She stated, “The color edited photo was taken of Khloé during a private family gathering and posted to social media without permission by mistake by an assistant.” She adds that “Khloé looks beautiful but it is within the right of the copyright owner to not want an image not intended to be published taken down.”
Fans were upset though when Khloé tried so hard to erase this photo because it helped the confidence of so many people. One fan on Twitter said, “The amount of unconscious body dysmorphia the Kardashian’s cause young women is unbelievable, I didn’t even realize how much I needed to see that unedited picture of Khloe Kardashian.” This photo gave fans the opportunity to see Khloé in her genuine day-to-day life. It seemed that Khloé was ashamed of the photo which fans praised for being real and unedited. It may have made them feel that it is unacceptable to look the way Khloé did in the photo.
Khloé finally broke her silence about the situation and wrote a note to her fans explaining her point of view. She mentions, “It’s almost unbearable trying to live up to the impossible standards that the public have all set for me.” Throughout Khloe’s career, she’s been made out by fans to be the “ugly” or “fat” one of the family.
Growing up in the public eye can give you loads of body dysmorphia and insecurities as the whole world is watching and judging you. Some feel bad for Khloe, as she feels unable to put her unedited body on social media without getting attacked. Others wish she would’ve kept the post online as it inspired many and showed that the Kardashians may be normal people like the rest of us after all.
