On May 26th 9 people died including the shooter, in San Jose at the valley transportation yard. When officers were arriving on the scene the shooter Samuel Cassidey already killed Paul Delacruz Megia, 42; Taptejdeep Singh, 36; Adrian Balleza, 29; Jose Dejesus Hernandez, 35; Timothy Michael Romo, 49; Michael Joseph Rudometkin, 40 while Abdolvahab Alaghmandan, 63, and Lars Kepler Lane, 63 later died in the ICU. With further investigation into Samuels, life police found his ex-girlfriend and she said that Samuel had a short temper and although she was appalled by this accident she was not entirely surprised and that Samuel had even talked about doing this before. Shortly after the gunfight, Samuel’s house erupted in flame and when searched by firefighters they concluded that Samuel had ignited an acceralent in his house, firefighters paired with bomb dogs also found the needed materials needed to make homemade bombs.
Later that day Gov. Gavin Newsom spent time with affected families and also publicly spoke in front of the county office about the horrible reality that the US as a nation has to go through with gun violence. In light of the attack, San Jose has set up a reunification center for VTA employees and family as well as a hotline for information and help at 408-321-7550.
