That’s right, Broadway is back baby! And we’ve never been more ready. Mark your calendars for September 2nd, the first showing bringing us back to touching greek mythology with Hadestown. With so many more opening shows this September including (but not limited to) Waitress, Hamilton, Wicked, Chicago, Six, and Moulin Rouge.
These big names are sure to bring in a big crowd but don’t worry, audience members must show proof of vaccination to attend all Broadway shows, and must wear masks during the performance.
Though these popular musicals might seem like the center of attention, our school is focusing more on something else. Two Benicia High alumni from 2011 are officially on Broadway! And we can’t wait to see how they’ve grown.
With Austin Scott playing a main lead in Girl From the North Country, a musical featuring the music of Bob Dylan. Scott also scored a spot in the original cast album for this new musical so go listen to it and give him some love.
The second alumni coming to Broadway is Issah Boyd, who’s playing a small but impactful character (some may know him as the “I have maggots in my scrotum”guy) in the Book of Mormon coming back out this November.
So be on the lookout! If you’re ever in New York, make sure to stop by for an experience of a lifetime you will never forget. There’s plenty of unique and wild musicals (and plays) for the rest of the year and much more set for 2022. Come back and give these theaters the energy and performances they were made for and let them finally resume their purpose.
