Sometimes you don’t know it’s there until it’s too late. It’s good to know the signs of things such as depression and anxiety, in case you, or someone close to you experiences it. Depression and anxiety may seem similar and you can think that they’re the same, but that is not always the case.
Depression can cause feelings of sadness, hopelessness, outbursts of anger and frustration. You also might lose pleasure and interest in the things you once enjoyed. Depression can also cause too much sleep or not enough (Insomnia). A new research from Boston University School of Public Health shows that the rate for depression worsened in 2021, climbing from 27.8% to 32.8%.
Anxiety is a whole other mental illness. You may feel nervous, tense, panicked or a sense of doom. You can also have an increased heartbeat along with sweating and numbing in the hands. Anxiety itself can also cause depression and worsen the symptoms.
There are many ways to treat depression such as antidepressants and therapy to help with mood swings. Things such as meditation, relaxation techniques(such as yoga or focusing on your breathing), and seeking medical attention can also help relieve and soothe the symptoms of anxiety.
