During the start of quarantine, my significant other had a hard time finding activities to do. We eventually came to a conclusion that we bonded best through video games. Playing video games together can improve communication, and problem-solving abilities, while cultivating feelings of closeness and connection. Co-op games especially help if you are in a long distance relationship, or want some team building exercises. Here are the top 5 Co-op games for couples:
- It Takes Two
It Takes Two is one of the best games you can play with a partner, my significant other and I play it all of the time. The story plays as the divorced couple Cody and May who turned into dolls by a magical spell. They are trapped in a fantastical world, and reluctantly challenged with saving their fractured relationship by suave love guru Dr. Hakim. The game is specifically designed for split-screen cooperative multiplayer, however you can play it online or locally. The characters must work together to face challenges and defeat the final bosses. I recommend going through all the mini games that feature one versus one action.
- Overcooked
Overcooked is a 2016 cooking simulation video game developed by Ghost Town Games. It is a local cooperative experience, and players control a number of chefs in kitchens filled with various obstacles and hazards to prepare meals to specific orders under a time limit. The game has a variety of locations, kitchen layouts, and the messy issues that freshens out player’s improvisation and then elevates the experience of Overcooked.
- Minecraft
Minecraft is a well known game among the generation z community. This is perfect for couples because it offers so many possibilities. It’s the ultimate sandbox in the world of cubes and bricks. You can build houses together, create farms, and fight all sorts of mobs. Minecraft is definitely great for couples that are fresh in the gaming community.
- Moving out
Similar to Overcooked, Moving out is a far more relaxed experience where you need to complete tasks within various different sceneries and are then graded based on your score. The plot is about a newly certified furniture arrangement and relocation technician, you’ll be taking on moving jobs all across the town of packmore. This is another team building exercise game with your significant other.
- A Way Out
This two player cooperative experience literally can not be played without two people. It follows two men, Leo and Vincet, as they escape prison and embark on the quest for revenge. The game is not hard to play, forces you to cooperate, and sometimes the performances are bad. Although this game had a few minor bugs, It was still a great game for couples.
