To start off the 2022 NFL season we have a great matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. The Bills are a strong team led by star quarterback Josh Allen. The Bills have a tough matchup this week playing Former Super Bowl champions Los Angeles Rams! Lining up for the LA Rams, Cooper Kupp, the 2021 triple crown winning wide receiver is expected to put on a show in their first outing.
This is the first season opener for both teams, seeing that the Bills have never won a Superbowl, and haven’t been picked to play the Superbowl champs until now. The Rams won the 1999 Superbowl but didn’t get the chance to play the season opener, instead playing on a Monday night.
The Bills won the coin flip and chose to get the ball in the first half. They made quick work getting down the field leading to a 26 yard touchdown caught by Gabe Davis putting the Bills ahead early. The Ram’s offense came back swinging but Von Miller and the Bills defense shut them down.
Early in the second quarter, cornerback Dane Jackson, intercepted a pass by Matthew Stafford, leading to them scoring a field goal putting them up by 10. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp came back flying down the field. After making a tense 4th down push, Cooper Kupp made a jaw dropping reception that showed off his triple crown skills to put them on the scoreboard. Soon after, Troy Hill caught an interception thrown by Josh Allen, leading to the tying field goal being kicked from 57 yards out by the Rams putting the score at 10-10 going into halftime with the Rams receiving in the 3rd.
Starting off the third quarter, the Bills defense completely shut out Mathew Stafford and the Rams, building the momentum for their next touchdown. Pushing forward at high speeds Josh Allen threw a reception to Ishiah McKenzie for their second touchdown. Both teams’ defenses showed their skills to stop possessions. The third quarter came to an end with the Bills having the ball.
In the first play, Josh Allen throws an absolute missile to Stefon Diggs, picking up a 47 yard reception, and putting them within the 10 yard line. From the 6 yard line, Josh Allen decided to take matters into his own hands running into the touchdown zone, securing the Bills their 3rd touchdown. Next down, Matthew Stafford throws another interception to Jordan Poyer giving the Bills the ball back. Throwing another bomb, Josh Allen connects with Stefon Diggs to complete a 53 yard touchdown putting them up by 21 points. The Rams now have the ball, making good steps forward when defensive lineman Carlos Bashman Jr tips a throw up, then catches it, giving the Bills their third interception of the night. While pushing hard trying to get their 4th touchdown, RB Zack Moss fumbled the ball giving the Rams one final chance at the ball. However, the Bills defense shut the Rams down concluding the match.
With that, the Buffalo Bills are the season opener winners defeating the previous Super Bowl champions. This was a great season opener being a close, and an entertaining match up until the end where the Bills took it away.
