Lebron James Shatters All-Time Scoring Record

By Matthew Selman

On February 7th, LeBron James broke Kareem Abdul Jabaar’s regular season scoring record of 38,387 points. Nobody has been able to break Kareem’s record in nearly 40 years, and it didn’t seem like anybody was going to. During his 20th season in the NBA, James did the impossible.

With 11 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, James sunk his signature fadeaway jumper from the left side. The crowd went absolutely wild, and officials paused the game to celebrate his accomplishment. James’ family came onto the court to congratulate him, as well as NBA commissioner Adam Silver. Not only did he break the scoring record that night, but he also managed 38 points in 34 minutes of play time.

Kareem Abdul Jabaar was in attendance to watch James break his record. Throughout the game TV cameras would pan to Jabaar after nearly every point James made, while he did not look particularly happy, at the end of the game he was quick to congratulate James. Lebron James was also  thankful for Jabaar being in attendance and got the crowd to give him a standing ovation.

Unfortunately the Lakers lost a close game against the Oklahoma Thunder, 133-130. Despite the loss, LeBron, along with his teammates, family, and friends gathered to celebrate his accomplishment.
