A 30 year old councilwoman, Eunice Dwumfour, was found dead in her car in front of her house on February 1, 2023. Dwumfour was found by the police with multiple gunshot wounds just after 7 p.m, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police said the suspect quickly drove away from the scene, crashing into other parked cars in the process.
Sayreville Mayor, Victoria Kilpatrick, spoke up on the situation and said she was “shocked and saddened” when told about Dwumfour’s death. Kilpatrick also said that Dwumfour was “taken from us by a despicable criminal act.” Kilpatrick and Dwumfour were close while working together in the council, she added.
Other members of the Republican council also expressed their sadness in the situation. The New Jersey Republican Party Chairman Bob Hugin issued his statement and said that he is expressing his “horror and deepest sorrow” at Dwumfour’s death. “We will remember Eunice for her steadfast dedication to the community as well as her deep abiding Christian faith,” he said. The governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy also said in a statement that he was “stunned’ by the news of the situation as well. “We’ll do anything we can to track down this murderer,” he also added.
Officials on the investigation said it is still ongoing and that they do not have a motive at the moment, but also urge the public to come forward and speak up to authorities if they see or know anything about the situation.
