Students get easily influenced by many things such as video games, drugs, and caffeine. These are all big problems but caffeine could be one of the most troubling ones because if they start as a kid they will do it going into adulthood. It can be very addictive and cause harm to the growth of your brain. Excessive consumption can also cause physical side effects such as dehydration, stomach upset, jitters, and an elevated heart rate, particularly in adolescents.
According to Michigan Medicine, teen caffeine consumption is bad because it negatively affects the developing brain and heart, disrupts crucial sleep patterns, and can lead to anxiety, high blood pressure, dependence, interfering with crucial brain development, potentially harming bone health, and leading to dependence and withdrawal symptoms like headaches and difficulty concentrating.
Also the American Academy of Pediatrics advises against it due to limited safety research for adolescents, emphasizing that caffeine isn’t a substitute for sleep and can cause significant health issues in younger people.
There are also so many other issues on how it affects the development of the mind and body, your sleep and energy levels, and risks of dependence and overconsumption. This shows how dangerous your one energy drink could be.
The main sources of caffeine are coffee, tea, energy drinks, and some can from different sports drinks. Others can be in chocolate, ice cream and energy bars. So you could be taking caffeine everyday and this is very unhealthy especially for the teen.
You should avoid caffeine in people under the age of 18. If you do have some, please reduce it to 100 milligrams per day at maximum. Parents should also monitor their children’s consumption of caffeine and not encourage the purchase of energy drinks or coffee.
