Michael Biopic Review

By Justice Brown

Michael is the latest biopic brought to theaters in April 2026. The film focuses on Michael Jackson’s career as a musician and how he earned the title “King of Pop.” It highlights his start as the Jackson five  which was a pop band he did with his brothers, all the way to the takeoff of his solo career. Michael also shows the creativity and determination Michael Jackson had to be so successful. The biopic also shows his family dynamic and some more personal details of Michael’s life outside of music.

Within the first weekend of Michael being in theaters, the biopic broke records and earned $218 million globally. It is the biggest opening for a musical biopic in history, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody. The film also has a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 97% on Fandango, and a 7.7/10 rating on IMDb.

So far Michael has received many positive reviews. Viewers enjoyed the iconic Michael Jackson discography and seeing their favorite musician’s story being told on “the big screen.” Some students saw the film on opening day and would love to give their reviews. Madison Andrada’s favorite part of the film was watching “Thriller” being performed just like the original music video. Zoie Osborne enjoyed the actor they picked to play Michael Jackson, which is his nephew Jafar Jackson, and his performance was spot on.

I also watched Michael on its opening day. I really enjoyed the biopic and learning more about Michael Jackson’s story. I never knew his father had a heavy influence on Michael and his brothers pursuing music careers or that Michael had an interest in child-like things because his own childhood was very focused on his music career and family struggles.
