Update: New Baseball and Softball Facilities

By Will French

As we all know, the construction of the baseball and softball field is underway. During these past few months, the old fields have been torn up, and it is now just piles of dirt. Aside from the traffic leaving school due to the one exit for cars, I am very excited to see what the new facilities will look and play like.

Thanks to Mr. Smith, we are able to get a little bit insight about the new facilities. “The estimated time to finish the construction projects for both the baseball/softball fields is June of 2028.” Hopefully, we can see that it finishes faster than expected, but only time will tell. The rain has definitely pushed back the construction time due to it creating mud puddles and prevented the workers from making progress on the field.

He also states that, “I can say the process has involved lots of collaboration with the “user groups.” Each project – the PAB as well as the fields – have involved several meetings between the architects with whom BUSD has partnered, as well as the users who will be using the facilities, to ensure the renovations meet the needs of the site.

For example, the PAB project has had several meetings between the architect, site and district admin, the band teacher, the dance teacher, the theater teacher, board members, and even parents.

For the lower fields, there have been “facility user” meetings between the same parties except for the latter we swapped the performing arts teachers with the varsity athletic coaches, Ryan Richardson (baseball) and Kristin Grubbs (softball).

This is great for everyone to understand what is happening during the project and what is going on behind the scenes, not just to our eyes.
