For all incoming freshmen starting high school, it can be very intimidating. I know the schedule can be extremely confusing, and the block days took me over a week to get used to. Having to start fresh at a new school, new schedules, and longer days can be a lot to adjust to. To make things seem a bit less stressful and intimidating, this article will inform you on everything you need to know to make your life easier.
The schedule is perhaps one of the most confusing things for freshmen, so to keep it simple, monday, tuesdays, and fridays are going to be a full six period day from 8:30 until 3:35, while wednesday and thursday are called “block days.” These are 3 period days that go until 3:00. Wednesdays are periods 1,3, and 5, while Thursdays are periods 2,4, and 6. To add on, an access period will always follow the first class of the day.
Access is a “free” period where students are given an hour to use as they see fit as long as it follows guidelines set by administration; leading up to block days, make sure to register for the class you wish to spend access in. Otherwise, you will be randomly assigned. Even if you sign up for a class, a teacher or the administration can forcefully assign you to a different class if they need you to make something up. To access RTI scheduler, log in to clever, then scroll down until you find the app icon with the letters RTI on it. This is the usual schedule for normal school weeks, however, there will be certain days with shorter schedules that happen every now and again and will be announced by teachers leading up to it.
One of the most common events that happen throughout the entire school year is spirit weeks, these come around often whenever something is happening at the school. For example, the week leading up to halloween is a spirit week filled with halloween themed. Participating in these spirit days is a great way to put a fun twist on your day, and some teachers might even give rewards/incentives to participating.
One of the most important things for the school year are finals, a very stressful time for every student on campus, no matter what grade. During finals week, there is a special schedule on the day of the finals, shortening the day in return for 2 hour long periods. For the first two days of the finals, you have 2 two hour classes with an access period in between to help prepare students for the next final, whether that’s studying or relaxing and calming their nerves. On the last day of finals, there is no access period, so you go from your first final into a brunch/lunch break, then students head to their second and last final for the semester. When it comes to breaks for food, the finals schedule has only one break each day, and it serves both brunch and lunch items.
