On September 11th, the Panthers faced American Canyon High School and pulled off a phenomenal victory. After losing 9-28 against the Wolves last season, Benicia knew what they had to do. Senior and Member of Leader Council, Hudson Dunne described the game as “too personal”, and the team agreeing, a loss was not an option.
Coming into the game with a fresh mindset, the Panthers clinched the win and defeated the American Canyon Wolves 24-21. After such an emotional high, Benicia should keep this energy going into their next game against Pinole Valley on September 18th. According to Dunne, the team knows they need to stay focused considering this upcoming game is going to be a tricky one, with Dunne describing it as a “rat poison game.”
Although the players are ultimately the ones who decide the fate of the game, the stands play a big role in bringing the energy to keep our team alive and motivated. Benicia Leadership member Jeremy Young described last Friday’s game as very lively, saying he felt the energy after the Panthers scored the first touchdown.
A lot of the energy also comes from the Benicia leadership team, whose job is to keep everyone engaged even when it’s a slow pace game, encouraging the students to tag along with chants as well, according to Young.
After this win, the Panthers are going to keep this energy and hopefully ball out against Pinole Valley, but they need your help.
