The Benicia High Varsity Golf team had the privilege to play at an exclusive golf course to start their season. On February 24, the team scrimmaged College Park High School at Contra Costa Country Club, a private golf course in Pleasant Hill. The country club is a possible future U.S. Open qualifier course, as the smooth greens and crisp fairways make it a fun and challenging course for golfers.
“I had a blast playing Contra Costa Country Club, it is by far one of the nicest courses we get to play this year,” said senior Zack McClure. “I enjoyed our scrimmage against College Park.”
McClure led the Panthers with two birdies en route to shooting a 37, the best score of the scrimmage. Junior Dustin Sparks and senior Nick Flores also played well, as they shot a 42 and 43, respectively. The Benicia golfer’s individual scores appeared to be slightly better than College Park’s.
The golf team’s first official match is on Tuesday, March 1st against Jesse Bethel High School at Blue Rock Springs Golf Course. It will be the first of 12 SCAC league matches for the Panthers. Be sure to visit beniciapaw.wordpress.com throughout the season for updates on the season!
