Following a few gigs at Coachella where Kendrick played a couple songs from his album Damn, on April 14th he finally released the full album. The day the album was released it immediately hit number 1 on the iTunes charts, it has even held this position for 10 days and counting. Fans all over the world are freaking out over this debut album and now Kendrick has announced his tour this summer. The Damn Tour spans 17 dates, kicking off July 12th in Phoenix, Arizona and concluding August 6th. For the trip, Lamar will bring along cohort Travis Scott along with “Broccoli” rapper D.R.A.M.
Tickets for the Damn tour went on sale to the general public on Friday, April 28th at Ticketmaster, with an American Express presale starting Tuesday, April 25th. The Damn tour marks Lamar’s first trek since his set of intimate Kunta’s Groove Sessions dates in the fall of 2015. According to Newsweek, Lamar’s Damn. sold 603,000 album equivalent units in its first week—surpassing the first-week numbers for both Drake’s More Life and Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide); More Life bowed in with 505,000 album equivalent units sold earlier in April, while Divide opened with a sizeable 451,000 units in March.
The latest set is Lamar’s fourth studio album and was met with critical acclaim upon release. The Guardian gave it five out of five stars, praising the artist for his “brilliant, sharp-edged storytelling.” In a 4.5-star review, Rolling Stone said Lamar had entered “beast mode.” Damn. features collaborations with Rihanna and U2, as well as writing credits from Jay Z and Bruno Mars.
