The red carpet was filled with music stars, and celebrities alike.
On November 19th, the American Music Awards premiered, kicking off with a performance by P!nk and Kelly Clarkson singing “Everybody Hurts,” by R.E.M. in dedication to those who survived the hurricanes, wildfires, and hate violence throughout 2017. Next off came the showstopping performance by Demi Lovato singing her new single, “Sorry Not Sorry,” which definitely hyped up the audience after such a heartfelt performance by P!nk and Clarkson. Lovato arose from the crowd and hurried onto the stage to begin her choreography along with her song and backup dancers leaving the crowd astonished.
Continuing the exhilarating night, Selena Gomez hit the stage with her first performance of the singer and Marshmello’s new single “ Wolves”. In addition to leaving the AMA’s attendees in shock when she arrived with her newly dyed blonde hair, Gomez also had a visually appealing performance as the set was the scene of a car crash and she was filled with scratches and bruises all over her body.
Christina Aguilera followed up with a jaw-dropping performance as a tribute to the late Whitney Houston. Aguilera performed Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, “I Have Nothing”, “Run to You”, and ended with “I’m Every Woman”. This was a very intimate moment for the audience and Aguilara did a beautiful job with it.
The night went on with performances by Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes, Khalid and Imagine Dragons, P!nk on the side of a skyscraper, and Hailee Steinfeld with Florida Georgia Line conveying that the 2017 AMA’s was not one to miss. To which it was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, it’s no surprise that the night was filled with humor. She wore oddly shaped dresses and making jokes like, “I don’t have an album, I don’t have a cool stage name. I don’t even have beef with anyone, I tried to tweet Selena Gomez before the show, and I’m like ‘Hey B***h!…you’re beautiful.’”
The Lifetime Achievement Award was granted to Diana Ross and the AMA’s was concluded with an abundance of Ross’s greatest hits. Ross brought her immediate family on stage, thanking her fans and explaining how family is the most grand gift of all.
