One of the longest-running fan complaints in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the studio’s reluctance to give Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow her own solo film, but now it looks like the studio is finally serious about making the project happen. The heroine Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff, was the first female hero introduced in the Avenger universe, who premiere in the movie Iron Man 2 and continued in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avenger: Age of Ultron, Captain: Civil War , which establish her character as an excellent skilled spy and assassin that works for S.H.I.E.L.D..
Black Widow is an underrated hero that deserves to have her own film to show the full excellence and natural power she possesses. She doesn’t have any superpowers to help fight against aliens or regular humans, she uses the skills that has learned as a child as her only weapon. Throughout the films she has been in she have shown off her expertise in foreign languages, tactics, martial art and secret agency. Expert marksman and mastery of various other weapons via gauntlets: grappling hook, knockout gas, taser, explosives tear gas pellets, and her own special stingers. She have all of these special things about, yet there is no movie to show her entire ability.
Even her backstory has enough mystery, adventure, and action to uphold a great Marvel movie that fans will enjoy. Captain America has his super soldier serum, Iron Man has his arc reactor, Thor has his Asgardian heritage, and the Hulk has his gamma radiation accident. Black Widow has a back story unlike any other.
She went through a program called The Red Room, which is a place for girls to go through strenuous daily training, including hand to hand combat, acrobatics, weapons training and tactical skills. The program even gave her the name ‘Black Widow’ because of her ruthless effectiveness. As she got older, Natasha was recruited to S.H.I.E.L.D. by Nick Fury. None of the other recent marvel superheros have such an interesting story line like Black Widow, which will give the audience a taste of something different.
Even actress, Scarlett Johansson says that she wants a Black Widow movie to happen under the right circumstances. She talks about the different ways that the story could be told, highlighting the past life of her character, as well as the Widow Program, another term for the Red Room, in Russia, basically the story line. Scarlett Johansson, in an interview with Variety, says “[Black Widow has] a really rich origins story. There’s a lot of places you can go, you can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program. There’s all kinds of stuff that you could do with it. You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from and where she’s part of.”
She also goes on about how Marvel and herself talks about this project. She says that “[she] talked to [Marvel] about it often. It would have to fit the idea of where they want to go. [She’s] invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in that character.” Scarlett also states that she wishes to wear a skin-tight catsuit before she can’t no more.
This Black Widow has its own special vibe and story line elements that the fans will enjoy, so why can’t there be a Black Widow movie? Marvel has the unique backstory, the amazing actress, and the huge fan base to work with, they should take this as an advantage and use it for their benefit.
