The Benicia High Girls’ Tennis Team starts their season off with a bang as they go undefeated in their first round of matches in the new league. Last year, the Lady Panthers made history in the SCAC league as they broke the record (for boys and girls tennis) with 71 consecutive wins.
The successful 2017-2018 year hit an emotional end as they said goodbye to their head coach Lisa Burton and welcomed the assistant coach, Melanie Voss, as the new head coach. This year, as the team entered The Diablo Athletic League (DAL) without their beloved head coach and without their top three players, they didn’t know what to expect.
The girls won their first match 8-1 on September 11th against Berean Christian High School, and followed with a 9-0 win against Concord High the following day. With many of the girls getting injured or not being able to make the matches, the team has had to work together and step up for players that couldn’t make it.
After going through one round in the league, Benicia High Girls’ Tennis goes undefeated as they beat Clayton Valley, Mt. Diablo, Alhambra, and Ygnacio Valley. Although in a new environment, the Lady Panthers have not let go of their record, which currently lays at 77-0.
