On Tuesday, December 4th, the BHS Varsity Boys Soccer Team played against Alhambra, ending in a tie with a final score of 1-1. The game ended earlier than anticipated, but the players didn’t let that stop them from giving it their all.
Benjamin Ryujin (11) plays midfield and believes the game was a success, explaining, “The score didn’t reflect how the game went. We dominated in possession and had much more opportunities offensively, but we couldn’t finish. I definitely think the game was ours to win.”
Team Captain, Kobe Tooch (12), agrees and believes that more time would provide more chances to win as well. Tooch plays center-back, or defense, and makes sure his team plays their best every time. “We played well as a team, but due to injuries, we couldn’t perform our best since we didn’t have everyone on the field.”
Freshman Lucas Otanez (9) plays attacking center-mid and admits that the Varsity team is a lot more intense and fast-paced than playing on the JV team. “Most of the kids are bigger than me and have beards,” Otanez jokes, “But overall it’s a pretty cool experience playing with those older kids.” Otanez thought the game is pretty evenly matched and that both teams each had good moments in play.
Benicia High is set to play against Ygnacio Valley tomorrow, December 11.
