On October 24, 2018, a 51-year-old white man, Gregory Bush is accused of shooting/killing a black man and woman at the Kroger Grocery store and it’s the parking lot in Jefferson, Kentucky. He killed Maurice Stallard, 69 in the store and killed Vickie Lee Jones, 67 in the parking lot.
Ed Harrell who was in the parking lot during the shooting reported to the Courier-Journal of Louisville said the shooter told him, “Don’t shoot me. I won’t shoot you. Whites don’t kill whites.” Bush also tried to shoot up the First Baptist Church which is predominately black but the church locked up before he could get in. Bush was caught because of the security footage outside of the church.
From Business insider, The church administrator said, “There were 70 people here at our weekly meeting service just an hour before he came by,” Williams said. “I’m just thankful that all of our doors and security was in place.”It also said that there was eight to ten parishioners inside the church when the shooter tried to barge in.
Bush has had a criminal past including disorderly conduct, two convictions of domestic violence and assault including an incident with Bush’s ex-wife where he abused her and called her slurs then she later filed a restraining order. Bush also tried to assault a police officer when they tried to subdue him. Bush has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of wanton endangerment.
