U.S. backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) capture the last ISIS stronghold in Syria.
In September the SDF began operations against the last ISIS stronghold in Hajin. The fighting for the last stronghold lasted three months. The SDF faced up to 2,000 ISIS fighter in Hajin. The U.S. provided airstrikes for the SDF. Hajin was finally captured on December 10 2018. Casualties on either side are unclear.
The fall of Hajin signifies the end of ISIS in Syria. Although they have lost their last stronghold some fighters managed to flee into smaller villages but are being hunted by the SDF. The Syrian war overall is almost over the rebels and government are close to peace.
