American singer and songwriter, Billie Eilish, has been gaining popularity since 2017 and is getting ready to release her second album in late March.
Billie is most commonly known as being one of the youngest successful artists. In 2016, Eilish released her first single “Ocean Eyes”, written by her older brother, Finneas. In fact, the singer recorded this song at only 13 years old. The whispery ballad, which was first uploaded to SoundCloud, currently has more than 84 million views on YouTube. Following the success of this song, she released her second single in 2017 called “Bellyache.” Later that year she released her debut EP “Don’t Smile at Me.” Her songs were on many American and international music charts and she was named as Apple’s newest ‘Up Next’ artist in October 2017.
Currently, at only 17 years old, Eilish has released an EP, received a billion streams on Spotify, had a song on Netflix’s show, 13 Reasons Why, worked with Khalid and Vince Staples, gained almost 14 million followers on Instagram, performed on Ellen, and toured the world. If that isn’t already impressive, the singer is anticipating the release of her first album “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO”. Her album is scheduled to release March 29, 2019.
Listeners have debated Eilish’s genre of music, which is nowhere near mainstream pop. In her upcoming album, she is branching out farther and embracing her unique style of music. After releasing two songs from the album called “bury a friend” and “wish you were gay”, listeners have been exposed to her new eerie style of music. The album cover depicts a spine-chilling scene as Billie creepily smiles with blank eyes. It accurately represents Billie’s style–frightening, yet artistic. In her upcoming album, we can expect a wide variety of music styles. “If you put 14 people who like different genres into a room and plop “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” in front of them, I want every single person in that room to like at least one song.” Eilish told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe.
After the release of the album, Eilish will begin her world tour. Fans of the young sensation have much to look forward to in 2019.
