Planned Parenthood: What’s Next?

Men, women, and children protest Planned Parenthood being removed from the Title X funding program.

As of August 19, 2019 Donald Trump has officially taken Planned Parenthood off of the Title X funding program due to new abortion laws.

Due to the recently instated abortion laws now plaguing nine of our states, Planned Parenthood has been taken off of the Title X funding program. This means that American tax dollars will no longer be this associations main form of income. Aside from donations and grants, American tax dollars funded most of Planned Parenthood’s corporation. Without the government funding they are pretty much stranded in open waters and it won’t be long before they’re scrounging for money. Defunding Planned Parenthood is a great injustice to more than just women looking for safe and affordable abortions. Planned Parenthood is far from the “Abortion Factory” that many believe it is, and it provides much more than the crude nickname entails. Some services that the organization provide are, STD and HIV testing and treatment, Birth control, Screening for reproductive cancers, pap smear tests and other female reproductive exams, Vaccines, PrEP and PEP (HIV prevention medication), pregnancy services and prenatal care, Transgender health services, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), vasectomy and other sterilization services, Condoms, and more. All in all, removing Planned Parenthood is a detrimental victory in America’s “war on women”, but this loss does more than just affect women, millions of men and minors also benefit from the organizations extensive services.

The new abortion laws have severely inhibited women’s rights and  proved that due to our current governmental situation that the rights of minorities are once again regressing. Abortions have been an unbothered part of the United States for almost half a century, so why now? Roe v. Wade was passed in 1970. After 48 years of legal, lawful abortions they’re once again outlawed, causing ogranizations such as Planned Parenthood to lose billions of dollars. Government money does not pay for the abortions that Planned Parenthood provides. The only thing that removing Planned Parenthood from the Title X plan is doing is bringing a peace of mind to conservatives, because despite what they think, the defunding of this esteemed corporation does not save any money. Money taken from funding Planned Parenthood will only be diverted somewhere else, possibly costing even more money.  So the question is: What’s next for Planned Parenthood?
