The Benicia High School girls’ volleyball teams faced off against the Mt. Diablo Lady Devils on Tuesday, September 24th. With both JV and Varsity having a winning record entering the games, they were both looking to continue their success.
JV started off the night strong and did not hesitate to put their skills on display. They dominated the Devils throughout the whole first set and did not let up. With #39, Callie Pracher, serving for the majority of the set, the Panthers wrapped it up quickly with a 25-5 win for the first set. They carried this energy over to the next set with much of the same story. This time, #20, Katie Edwards, led most of the points with her serves. Although giving up more points than the first set, they still closed it out quickly with a comfortable 25-16 win. JV won the match 2-0. After the game, Callie Pracher stated, “They worked for [the win],” and she “loves the feeling after a hard earned point.”
Varsity was a similar story. Benicia did not lose a point in the first set, and wrapped it up with a 25-0 dominating win served by #22, Sydney Lee. This was the story for the rest of the match. After giving up an early five points in the second set, Benicia once again found their groove and went on a 17-2 run finishing the set with a 25-7 win. Benicia held nothing back in the final set with a quick 25-5 win. In an interview after the game, Molly Duane said that the key to their success that night was their serves. Lana Ojo also commented saying that communication was not only an important part for their win that night, but also just a big part of the game of volleyball in general.
With both JV and Varsity showing their talent on the court, they both look to have lots of success in the future.
