Tyler, The Creator’s famed festival, Camp Flog Gnaw, had its eighth anniversary this Veterans Day weekend. The festival has gained the attention of tens of thousands of fans and some of the biggest artists from the last couple of decades. The lineup for the festival listed 38 artists along with a banner covering a name that hinted at a surprise guest; many of which thought this guest would be Frank Ocean. This speculation seemed to come out of nowhere, especially given that he has not performed in over 2 years; before that he rarely performed, and even more rarely in the United States.
On the last day of the festival, fans were introduced to Lil Uzi Vert, A$ap Rocky, and Drake. Fans were disappointed to find out that Frank was not showing up, so after 20 minutes of performing, they started booing. When Drake realized this, he said, “I’m here for you tonight, if you want to keep going, I will keep going tonight.” When the crowd reacted negatively he responded with, “Well look, it’s been love. I love y’all, I go by the name of Drake, thank you for having me.”
Tyler went to Twitter to rant about the actions of his fans with the statement, “I THOUGHT BRINGING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST ON THE F***ING PLANET TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL WAS FIRE! BUT FLIPSIDE, A LIL TONE DEAF KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CROWD IT DREW. SOME CREATED A NARRATIVE IN THEIR HEAD AND ACTED OUT LIKE A***OLES WHEN IT DIDN’T COME TRUE…”
What the attendees didn’t realize is that Drake was the last artist on the lineup, so many were left unfulfilled and disappointed that they had to leave when the show was unceremoniously ended. Tyler is a big Drake fan and has talked about this since. Drake even joked about a 10 year deal with the festival.
