Chadwick Boseman’s Incredible Legacy

Chadwick Boseman, the forty-three year old actor has reportedly died in his home on August 28, 2020 alongside his family and friends. He had been battling stage three colon cancer which had progressed to stage four since 2016 while delivering incredible performances as King  T’Challa, Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and more throughout his outstanding acting career. He did all this while keeping his illness private and showing up as a healthy Boseman we all thought he was. Boseman was also an advocate for the “Black Lives Matter” movement which he was really passionate about. His purpose was to inspire kids from the black community and to show them that they can reach for the stars and one day, make a name for themselves. “He refused to play certain roles because of the way they were portraying blacks, He stood up for what he felt was right.” (Per: Link)

Many prominent figures and fans reacted to his shocking death on social media such as Michael B. Jordan who wrote a heartfelt post saying, “I’m more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m gonna miss your honesty, your generosity, your sense of humor, and incredible gifts. I’ll miss the gift of sharing space with you in scenes. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets.”(Per: Link) .

 Kamala Harris also paid tribute to her friend saying, “Heartbroken. My friend and fellow Bison Chadwick Boseman was brilliant, kind, learned, and humble, He left too early but his life made a difference,” she wrote. Sending my sincere condolences to his family.” (Per: Link) Oprah Winfrey paid her respects to Boseman by posting on twitter saying, (Bosman) was a gentle gifted SOUL. Showing us all that Greatness in between surgeries and chemo,” she added. “The courage, the strength, the Power it takes to do that. This is what Dignity looks like.“ (Per: Link)

Boseman’s work for the Black Panther movie became a cultural phenomenon. It earned $700 million domestically and became the fourth highest-grossing film in all of North America. The movie was nominated for seven academy awards which included best costume design, best production design, and best original score.

 The movie “42” which focuses on the life of Jackie Robinson portrayed by Boseman highlights the first ever African-American to play in the MLB which broke the color barrier. The film earned nominations for the Golden Trailer award, Image awards, Satellite awards, and more. 

Chadwick Boseman was an outstanding individual who embodied what it meant to be a fighter. He showed incredible amounts of courage, will, and dignity when filming his movies which included stunts that a cancer patient wouldn’t normally do. His short, but well-lived life inspired many to; in moments of defeat to bounce back and never give up. WAKANDA FOREVER!
