Coca-Cola started out as a “patent medicine” made by pharmacist Dr. John Pemberton. The Coca-Cola company website explains that the first bottle was sold by Pemberton in May of 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia. The drink is known to have been previously sold with cocaine in it. However, that part of the recipe was removed in the 1900’s. Now it’s one of the most well known brands in the world. The brand’s products are sold in over two hundred countries and territories.
A lot of Coca-Cola’s success is credited to the fact that they focus more on their brand and company rather than product. The brand’s purpose is to “Refresh the world. Make a difference.” One way the brand has been trying to make a difference is it’s focus on sustainability that will greatly benefit the world’s environment considering how popular it is. In 2018 Coca-Cola revealed their plan to have all of their packaging recyclable by 2025 as well as to have their cans and bottles all made with 50% recycled material by 2030.
The Coca-Cola logo and design has undergone many changes throughout the years. The first logo was created by Dr. Pemberton’s bookkeeper, Frank M Robinson. This logo is widely recognized around the world.
Since then, the logo and packaging designs of products have undergone changes. Even with the design changes however, Coca-Cola is still the same successful brand and company.
