Preparations, rumours, and dates, have been stirring up news of the Met Gala this year; an annual event to fundraise for the Museum of Metropolitan Art in New York. This special event is usually held yearly, on the first Monday of May, but this year the Met Gala will be taking place on September 13, 2021. There has been much anticipation from people for this year’s fundraiser, especially since last year’s Met Gala was cancelled due to COVID-19.
One thing we know so far is that this year’s theme is, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” or to put it simply, American fashion. Another thing we know, according to WWD.com, is that Vogue snagged Timothee Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, Naomi Osaka, and Billie Eilish to host the fundraiser this year.
It is also confirmed that those attending this year’s Met Gala will have to wear their masks and have proof of vaccinations. According to a spokesperson for the Met, “Currently, all attendees at the Met Gala on September 13 must provide proof of full vaccination and will be expected to wear masks indoors except when eating and drinking. We will update these guidelines as needed.”
This year’s Met Gala seating chart is one of the most anticipated parts by people. It is rumored that the seating chart will include many influencers from social media instead of just celebrities. The list of guests is always revealed last minute, but this year people are making some guesses. They believe that Tik Toker, Addison Rae, and well known social media influencer, Emma Chamberlain, will be attending.
Lewis Hamilton, Camila Cabello, and Allyson Felix, are all also believed to be attending. It is said that Lewis Hamilton has bought a table for Black athletes and designers. It is expected that the Met Gala regulars will be attending this year: Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian.
Due to the unusual timing of the fundraiser this year, there are many concerns that many celebrities will not be able to attend. For example, Tom Brady and his wife may fail to attend due to his football schedule. There are also concerns for actors and actresses who may be filming during the ball.
