Mother in California Fights Off Mountain Lion with Her Bare Hands

On August 26, a five year-old boy in California was playing outside his house in Calabasas, when a mountain lion appeared and attacked him. Hearing his screams from inside the house, his mother jumped into action, running outside, and hitting the animal until it released her son.

“She ran outside and immediately started striking and punching at the lion and managed to fend the lion off her son,” said Captain Patrick Foy with The California Department of Fish and Wildlife in his interview with CBS Los Angeles. “This mom’s an absolute hero who saved her son’s life, there’s no question about it.”

When a Wildlife officer approached the scene after the incident, he found an aggressive mountain lion hissing and growling in the corner of the property and fatally shot it. Later lab tests proved it to be the same lion who attacked the young boy.

The young boy was rushed to the hospital minutes after his mother saved him, having wounds from the attack on his head, neck, and torso, he was given immediate treatment. He is currently in stable condition, but will remain in the hospital for recovery reasons.
