Rejoice Star Wars fans, a trailer for the new series The Book of Boba Fett just dropped! The season is going to release a new episode weekly starting from December 28, 2021; and this trailer is one of the first looks we’ve had. The newest version of the fan-favorite Boba Fett is played by Temuera Morrison, who will co-star with Mulan’s voice actor, Ming-Na Wen, as character Fennec Shand.
The trailer begins with hints that Fett had given up bounty hunting. In the season finale of The Mandalorian, Fett killed Jabba the Hutt’s right hand in command, who had taken power of the criminal empire on Tatooine after the death of Jabba. In the trailer, Fett and Shand talk to Jabba’s captains about a “peaceful” transfer of power. But several shots show the threats waiting for the anti-hero. Walking through the towns, Fett and Shand are met with caution, and at one point we see the two surrounded by men with electrified weapons.
The goal of this series seems to be Boba Fett taking over and controlling Tatooine’s criminal underworld, as we see him and Shand negotiating the terms for Fett’s takeover of Jabba’s territory.
Morrison previously took part in the cinematic universe in 2002 when he was cast as the role of Jango Fett in the movie Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. When asked what he felt about being casted as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian, Morrison said, “It felt right. It felt good,” and that he was “back.”
The character Boba Fett is an infamous bounty hunter, and has extensive lore in the Star Wars universe. He has made appearances in the movie The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, as well as in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the TV series The Mandalorian.
The official Star Wars site states that Boba Fett is a clone of the original Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, and was raised as his son. After the Clone Wars in which Boba and Jango Fett participated, Boba lost his father and became a bounty hunter. Fett worked for several different powerful people and began to garner an impressive reputation. After capturing and then losing famous Han Solo, Fett lost his armor and had to retrieve it from another Mandalorian.
Pedro Pascal starred in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, where Boba met Shand and formed an alliance with her. The Mandalorian is where Fett began his journey into The Book of Boba Fett.
