Star Wars Eclipse: “Detroit Become Human” In A Galaxy Far Far Away?

By: Caleb Rippee

To the surprise of many fans, Star Wars has just released a trailer for an upcoming video game titled “Star Wars Eclipse.” I will be unpacking and explaining everything we know so far and what we can expect in the future from this game.

On December 9th, the official Star Wars Youtube channel released a cinematic trailer for their upcoming game called “Star Wars Eclipse” which is being developed by Quantic Dream. The same company that gave us “Detroit Become Human” back in 2018, which was very well received and hailed for its intricate decision based story, and a vast amount of freedom (or lack thereof).

The game is said to take place during the “High Republic” a time period taking place 200 years before The Phantom Menace. In the trailer, we see Yoda on Coruscant looking out from the Jedi Temple. We also see many other interesting things like the display of potential playable characters and maybe even an early version of C3PO that has already sparked theories and debates (has not been confirmed yet).

We have been given little to no information regarding the release date of this game. However, we do have some info on the nature of the game and some things that will be possible during gameplay.

On the official website for Star Wars Eclipse, there are a few key pieces of information that give us an idea of how the game will work. One quote says: “Every decision you make can have dramatic repercussions on your journey. The way of life in the Outer Rim is being threatened and you must define your path.”

This is a vague piece of information but it does tell us that we will be able to make impactful decisions that directly influence the course of the narrative, much like “Detroit Become Human”

This is not necessarily a new idea for Star Wars games, “Star Wars The Old Republic” allowed you to make decisions that pushed you closer to the light or dark side. But it will be interesting to see how a company that specializes in these narrative-based games will handle it.

In addition to this, another piece of information that eludes the game is similar to Detroit also come from the website, stating: “Star Wars Eclipse lets you play as a diverse cast of charismatic characters, each with their own story, abilities, and role to play in the tapestry of events that could alter the carefully balanced peace of the Outer Rim.”

Detroit Become Human also allows you to play a few different characters that are all diverse and unique and provide the player with a multi-faceted experience. I speak for many Star Wars fans and game fans when I say that we’re curious to see how this turns out.

Regardless of how the game turns out, the trailer surely gave Star Wars fans a glimmer of hope and a spark of excitement. With popular Star Wars YouTuber “Star Wars Theory” saying it was “the coolest star wars game trailer I’ve ever seen.”

So go check the trailer out for yourself if you are interested and if you are a Star Wars fan, buckle up. We are in for a wild ride.
