The Heisman Trophy has been awarded to the “most outstanding football player in the United States” every year since the 1930s. This honored prize recognizes the players in college football that show the most effort and prove their readiness for the big leagues [NFL]. It’s usually the ones who throw, catch and/or run the most touchdowns, who are successful in receiving this award.
This year’s 2021 Heisman Trophy winner is Alabama’s Sophomore Quarterback, Bryce Young. Young has led his team to another historically successful season. Finishing at an impressive 12-1 record and topping the College Football Rankings once again, Bryce Young and Alabama Crimson Tide are on their way to possibly win a back-to-back championship. The young prospect has broken several records, thrown amazing touchdown passes, and continued to show the world why he stands where he is.
For example, in the finishing weeks of an entertaining college football November, Alabama played Arkansas for the SEC West Title. After a slow start against No. 21 Arkansas, Bryce Young blew the roof off the stadium and made history. The quarterback threw for 5 TDs and 559 passing yards and absolutely shattered the school’s single-game passing record that stood for almost half a century. He now has everyone’s attention directed to his abilities.
In his ceremony speech, Young said, “I’ve always been ruled out and counted down and people a lot of times have told me that, you know, I wasn’t going to be able to make it and for me, it’s always been about not really proving them wrong, but proving to myself what I can accomplish.” Encouraging others around him and leading by example, Bryce Young really showed young athletes what it takes to keep their confidence and keep pushing no matter what others tell them. That in the end, you are the one to create and build your future, without anyone stopping you.
Young won the Heisman award with 684 votes, a huge 577 votes gap between second place. He has proven he is worthy of receiving this year’s award and fans can’t wait to see him play on Sundays.
