Jim Carrey slams Will Smith for slapping comedian Chris Rock across the face after making a G.I. Jane joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Carrey explained how he was “sickened” that Will Smith received a standing ovation. “I was sickened by the standing ovation. Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”
Jim Carrey made it very clear that he felt Smith “should’ve been ushered out of the ceremony after the scene he caused.” Carrey had a lot to say about the incident. According to 9News, Rock decided to not file a police report and Carrey believes it is because Chris just “didn’t want the hassle.”
“[The slap] came out of nowhere,” said Carrey, “because Will Smith has something going on inside him that’s frustrated.” IndieWire stated that Jim Carrey also said how he would be “…suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be ubiquitous.” Jim claimed that “that insult is gonna last a very long time…”
Jim Carrey didn’t stop there, he also stated that “…if you want to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on twitter [that’s fine]. But you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.” Jim Carrey continued to say that he has “nothing against Will Smith,” and that Smith has “done great things,” but Carrey strongly believes that “…was not a good moment. It cast a shadow over everyone’s shining moment last night…it was a selfish moment.”
