Early Sunday morning at approximately 2:00 a.m, gunfire erupted around the corner of 10th and K street, near Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center. Police had rushed to the scene where they later were found having to perform CPR on multiple victims.
Many cellphone videos taken at the scene are now circulating the internet and have people thinking that the cause of the scene might’ve come from a fight in the middle of a large crowd of people on a sidewalk. Footage contains the scene of numerous people fleeing the scene after.
As a result, about 12 victims were hospitalized and six were confirmed dead. That includes three women and three dead. The six have been identified as Johntaya Alexander, 21; Melinda Davis, 57; Sergio Harris, 38; Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi, 32; Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21; and Devazia Turner, 29.
As of Monday, the Sacramento Police Department have arrested and taken in 26-year old Dandrae Martin on suspicion of assault and illegal firearm possession. Martin is currently being held without bail.
Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert stated, “The investigation is highly complex involving many witnesses, videos of numerous types and significant physical evidence. This is an ongoing investigation and we anticipate more arrests in this case.”
The police department had also released a statement saying, “We want to thank the community for the overwhelming assistance that has been provided. To date, we have received over 100 videos and/or photo files provided through the community evidence portal.”
Many members of the Sacramento community gathered together Monday night for a vigil. Officials expressed their frustration and emotion in a call for action against gun violence to prevent more shootings like this one in the city.
