Paul Pelosi Attacked in His Own Home

On the morning of October 28, 2022, Paul Pelosi, husband of the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was attacked in his shared San Francisco home.

The attacker was later identified as David DePape. DePape broke into Pelosi’s home at two in the morning, looking for Nancy Pelosi. When DePape only saw Paul, he woke him up and demanded to know where Nancy was.

Despite being held captive, Paul was able to convince DePape to go and use the bathroom. At 2:23 in the morning, Paul was able to call the police using his phone that was charging in the bathroom. Paul was talking in code, so the operator knew he was in danger.

When the police arrived at Pelosi’s home, DePape went over with Paul to answer the door, armed with a hammer. According to Officer Chief William Scott, DePape “pulled a hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it.’

After detaining DePape, police found his bag which contained zip ties, tape, and rope, which concluded that DePape was prepared to injure Nancy Pelosi. Depape was then later taken to San Francisco’s county jail and was brought in for questioning.

It was later found that DePape was an illegal citizen, originating from Canada, and has been in the country since March 8, 2008. DePape was then charged with six counts of attack; the counts including attempted murder, burglary, assault, false imprisonment, and threatening the family member of a public official. The Department of Homeland Security stated that he may be deported back.

Six days after the attack, Paul Pelosi was released from Zuckerberg San Francisco Hospital after receiving treatment for a skull fracture and serious injuries to his arms and hands. Since his release, Paul has been under doctor’s surveillance until he makes a full recovery.

Since then, Nancy Pelosi has been worried about her husband’s health and condition. In a recent interview, Nancy  revealed that she found out when the Capitol Police knocked on her door and told her the news.

“For me this is really the hard part because Paul was not the target and he’s the one who is paying the price,” stated Nancy Pelosi, in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
