Oakland Shooting 7 Injured and 1 Killed

By Lauren Dulatre

On January 23, 2023, this month’s third mass shooting happened in Oakland, California.

At 6:00 p.m. the Oakland Police Department were dispatched to the 5900 block of Macarthur Boulevard to investigate an alert sent from ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection technology. When officials arrived at the scene, they found ‘several casings’, but found no victims. But when investigating, officers said there had been a shooting between several individuals.

Multiple hospitals in the area: such as Sutter Health, Kaiser and Providence, then began alerting the department that they have been receiving multiple patients suffering gunshot wounds, saying that eight victims self-transported themselves to the hospital and were currently being treated.

Seven victims were able to be fully treated and are now in stable condition, while one sadly passed away. The deceased victim’s identity is currently being withheld pending family notification, said police.
