High school wrestling has become an extremely popular sport for teens. Its origins in schools date back to the late 19th century. This sport requires an extensive amount of conditioning and courage. The first wrestling tournament was held in 1905 by The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association, this tournament was held for college and high school students.
It is no doubt that wrestling is a beloved sport around the US. And like most schools, Benicia High School has an outstanding wrestling team. BHS has had a great Wrestling program for many years. The program welcomes both boys and girls and even people who have no prior experience or knowledge of wrestling. These impressive students stay motivated and strong even with school and work commitments. One of these amazing students is Aidan Haynes.
18 year old Aidan Haynes, a Benicia High School senior and wrestling captain, has wrestled on varsity level all 4 years and has been captain since Junior year. He has been wrestling for a total of 8 years.
Haynes is 21-9 so far this season. “I am looking forward to finishing this season strong.” As a student athlete, he gives his all on the mat and in the classroom. Aidan has a 4.5 overall GPA and a great overall wrestling record.
Aidan has several favorite memories from this wrestling season, but one of them is after weigh-ins.”My favorite memory is weighing in because after that I get to finally eat.”
Haynes likes wrestling because it develops teamwork, despite the fact that it is not a team sport and reflects on oneself. “I enjoy how wrestling is an individual sport. When I lose, I lose, and it is my fault.” Haynes says.
After high school Aidan Haynes is planning on joining the Military.
Aidan concluded his season by saying, “It’s a tough sport, but once you get committed, you’re committed, and you just kinda get into the culture of it.”
