What To Do This Summer!

By Staff

As the weather begins to warm up and the sun makes its appearance, we are reminded that summer is right around the corner. Summer is the season we look forward to all year for many reasons. You’re finally free from the burden of school, work, and the cold dreary weather. But going from a busy hectic schedule to nothing is a drastic change. For those who don’t know how they will fill their time this summer, here are some fun ideas to keep you busy!

Going away on a vacation can be really expensive. If you’re not willing to spend the money on hotel and travel fees but still want a weekend getaway, camping is the solution! Camping can be very affordable and is always a lot of fun! There are some incredible spots along Highway 1 which have insane views of the Northern California Coast. It’s easy to bring a large group of friends when camping as well since generally, you don’t pay per person, but per vehicle. Living in California gives you endless opportunities for amazing camping and beautiful scenery. I highly encourage you to hit the road with your friends and set up camp for a weekend!

When you think of summer, it is likely that the beach comes to mind. The beach is the perfect destination for a warm summer day. Northern California doesn’t have the warmest beaches so I always check the upcoming weather to plan for a perfect day. Some popular beaches in the area are Stinson and Muir Beach. Whether you want to hit the road early and maximize the UV potential, or want to have a cozy evening bonfire, it is a guarantee you’ll have a great time!

If you are a fitness enthusiast and love the outdoors, hiking is another great way to spend your day. It’s also a perfect opportunity to get your dogs out of the house if you have any. Wake up with the sun, pack up some snacks and hit the road! Hiking is the perfect way to connect with nature and get a good workout at the same time. One of my all time favorite trails is the Sea to Sky Trail on the Jenner Headlands. The trail is right along the coast and even has a telescope at the top to get a closer look out.

If you are a shopper then going to your local farmers or flea market is a great way to spend your summer afternoon. Here, in Benicia, the Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There are food vendors as well as fresh fruit and vegetable stands! Another local Benicia event to look forward to is the Benicia Peddlers Fair. This year it is planned for August 10th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The fair has endless booths of clothing, jewelry, antiques, furniture, and anything else you could possibly imagine.

After reading, I hope that you have taken inspiration to plan lots of fun activities this summer. Summer always goes by too fast so make the most of it and stay busy! Whether you go camping, to the beach, hiking, attending local markets, or anything else exciting, I hope you have an awesome vacation!
