Balance Is Important

By Shaia Culligan

Did you know fitness improves brainpower? Working out and moving your body can improve weight, keep your heart healthy, and strengthen your muscles and bones. But not balancing diet with fitness can have disadvantages for you.

According to UT Health Austin, “Poor diet and physical inactivity are linked to an increased risk of diseases.” This is why balance is important. Keeping a good diet with a mix of veggies, protein, and carbs can give you energy for working out and keeping your body in good shape.

Keeping an unhealthy diet but working out all the time doesn’t burn away all the unhealthy food. The Science of Health says that, “But to optimize your health, exercise and diet must work together.” Working out 150 minutes a week of moderate intensity with a good balanced diet can keep your body healthy and keep your brain moving.

This specifically relates to teens because kids’ bodies and brains are still growing. The brain is growing and teaching kids what are good decisions and bad decisions, emotional responses, communication, and more. In an article by The National Institutes of Health it states that working out through your midlife and adolescence was associated with a lower chance of getting diseases or sickness later in life.

Overall fitness and diet can help with your lifelong health and mobility. For example, poor diet and no exercise can leave less muscle mass in later years. Trying to keep a routine and discipline in adolescent years can really help with your later mobility too. Diet helps teenagers grow brain power and give energy to exercise too.
