Top 5 Best Holidays

By Alexis Navarro

Throughout the year there are lots of different holidays, each bringing different kinds of feelings and holiday spirit. With all the different holidays throughout the year, the question that comes with it is what are the top five best holidays?

     1) Christmas is rated the number one holiday in the world. Christmas is a magical time for everyone of all ages! For kids they get presents, stay home from school, decorate the tree and house, and get the magic of Santa Claus, elves, and reindeer. As you get older Christmas is a time to spend with family and friends and buy them things you know they will enjoy. Will Chamblee, a sports writer for Baylor Lariat describes Christmas by saying “no other holiday has a cultural impact quite like Christmas.”

     2) Halloween comes in second place because of its appeal to all ages and people. For younger kids, they can dress up as their favorite tv show and movie characters and go door to door getting candy with a simple three word phrase “trick or treat.” For teenagers to young adults Halloween is a time to dress up and have fun with their friends or you can have a fun movie night, watching scary movies or halloween movies, and as you get older it can be a time to pass out candy or take your own children trick or treating.

     3) In third place is Valentine’s Day, because of how it is a great opportunity to show how much you love and appreciate those around you. While Valentine’s day is usually seen as a holiday for just couples, the reality of it is that it is a holiday to celebrate love, whether that be platonic or romantic. Nicole Melchionda, a writer for Greetings island describes Valentine’s day as “this holiday is still the perfect time to remind your partner how much you care. If you’re single, that shouldn’t stop you from having fun with your friends…” Valentine’s day is a great way to show the people in your life (whether they are your family, friends, or significant other) just how much they mean to you by giving them something special.

     4) Easter takes fourth place because of how it is in the spring time, where everything is getting warmer and flowers are beginning to bloom, and children can participate in fun things like easter egg hunts and meeting the easter bunny. It also allows adults to create special memories for their kids, nieces, nephews, younger cousins or younger siblings. Easter brings out the best in people and doesn’t nearly get enough credit.

     5) Thanksgiving takes the final spot at number five because it is a holiday that most people either love or hate, some people hate it because of the overall history of the holiday and others think Christmas and Halloween overshadow thanksgiving. But to the people who love it, they see it as a time to be thankful for family and friends, and to eat good food such as turkey, pie, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and dinner rolls. Overall thanksgiving is a good holiday to celebrate your friends and family and spend time with them.
