Want Better Sleep? Here’s What to add to Your Night Routine

By Zoie Osborne

As we all know, sleep is a key factor to getting through our day and having a healthy life. But we don’t want to go to sleep any which way, we should partake in selfcare and calming our bodies before we head to bed. So if you are looking for some ways to upgrade your night routine for the best sleep ever, here’s what to add!

The first thing that should be implemented in your night routine is limiting your phone usage. When using your phone before bed, your phone emits blue light which suppresses melatonin, making sleep difficult to fall asleep.

Instead, find a hobby to participate in before bed such as reading, journaling, or coloring. Activities like these will promote relaxation and clear your mind before bed, allowing you to have better nights sleep.

The second factor to consider for a good night’s rest is hygiene before bed. It doesn’t have to be a thirty step night time routine, but getting clean before bed makes you feel so refreshed before going to sleep.

Try coming up with a skincare routine that works for you and your skin, including things like face washes, serums, and moisturizers. Dental hygiene is just as important as making sure to brush well, floss, and use mouthwash. Doing my skincare and dental hygiene routines before bed always calm me down and make me feel so ready for bed.

Another factor to keep in mind when trying to make your night time routine is consistency, in this case with your sleep schedule. Pick a time to be your set bed time so you are falling asleep at a similar time every night. Going to sleep at the same time will regulate your body clock. Regulating your body clock will aid in improving sleep quality, regulating emotions and well being, and better digestion for your body.

Doing a short reset cleaning up your room, backpacks, repacking and laying out your outfits for the next day is a great way to close up your day. Sometimes having a dirty room or not knowing your plan for the next day leaves a little bit of lingering stress that can mess up the comfort of your night’s rest. Resetting at the end of the day gives you the opportunity to clear up your space and mind.
