Benicia High’s Musical Theater Class Presents Their Final Showcase

By Scarlett Tarango

This May 20th at 7pm, Benicia High’s Musical Theater class is presenting a showcase performance to wrap up the year. It will be one of the last ever shows in the school’s PAB before its remodel.

The theme of the show involves love and its complications. The songs go through an emotional rollercoaster of the ups and downs of love. What makes this showcase unique is that each number will transition and connect to each other in their own ways to make the performance feel like a more coherent story rather than just random songs.

The showcase will include solos, duets, trios, and group ensemble numbers from all different kinds of musicals from modern contemporary and golden age. The showcase will include songs from musicals like Wicked, Waitress, Tick Tick Boom, Into the Woods, Hamilton and many more familiar and beloved musicals.

Throughout the school year the musical theater class has learned about different kinds of musicals, practiced group choreography, sung solos, duets, and even trio numbers together, and much more. Now at the end of the year they have the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

Many of the students have been very excited about the upcoming show, and have had nothing but positive things to say.

When asked what the audience can expect when coming to watch the showcase, musical theater student Emma Hewitt had this to say. “The show is gonna have a wide variety of emotions, love, hate, sadness, comedy and anything else you can think of.”

Another student, Morris Hirakawa, said this, “There’s really just a lot of dynamics in each song, and there’s so many talented people that haven’t gotten opportunities to take the stage like this before. I think the audience will really enjoy it.”

If you find yourself free on the night of May 20, you should check out the showcase to support Benicia High’s theater department.
