The Big NO’s in Fashion

By Isabella Capulong

Fashion is debatable amongst many but there is also a big difference on an individual’s fashion and fashion trends which are 2 different things. Fashion is a dynamic cultural and social phenomenon, driven by the desire for novelty and self-expression through clothing, accessories, and beauty. But fashion trends on the other hand is a type of “fashion” that doesn’t stay for long. For example how people were wearing cargo pants, some people still wear them to this day but there was also an era where there was a lot of hype for that specific type of clothing. To cargo pants, shorts, anything cargo people would wear not so long ago. But what happened to them now?

A lot of people have their own opinion, but there are a lot of common answers. But especially millennials have a lot of opinions on fashion trends in this time frame. Quoted by Mr. C a former staff at Benicia High School claims that he doesn’t like “tight jeans for men and when people sag, I also don’t really like when I see people wearing really short shorts. But also I am open with anything and I think it’s good that a lot of people have different styles to show their true self.”

A lot of people agree with the same thing, especially grown ups and their perspective on what they like and what they don’t like in fashion. Another staff member from Benicia highschool, Ms. Lynn, who is in charge of the wellness center got asked the same question and responded with “I don’t have a preference, I just enjoy when people express themselves. But one fashion trend I don’t like is when I see people wear shorts that are too short and not appropriate to come to school to learn in.”

There are many different styles of fashion and different opinions on what people like and what they don’t like. But fashion is also another way of showing personality and hobbies. Everything is about opinion, not facts. But think about it, what is your least favorite fashion trend?
