As the NFL season starts to kick off, mini camps do too, there are three different types of mini camps rookie; mandatory ones and voluntary veterans ones.
Rookie mini camps are the first ones held by teams. Rookie mini camps are a 3 day orientation for new players to be introduced to the team and facilities, held during the first two weekends of May.
Many players can go to this camp, like drafted rookies and undrafted rookies. They can also send invites out to people, and if they like what they see in the camp, they can get a contract. and first year players, guys who were on practice squads or just don’t have a year of NFL credit on an active 53 man roster.
On the other hand voluntary mini camps only happen when a NFL team is experiencing a transition in a head coach.
But unlike the rest of the camps these are held in April right before the NFL draft so the new head coaches like John Harbaugh or Robert Saleh can see their new roster prior to the draft and see what positions they need to draft.
Now for the final one is Mandatory Mini camps. Which is just like the name all players who are on the 53 man roster or the practice squad have to go to these camps. And if they don’t they get fined for every day they miss, it’s 17 thousand for the first day, 35 thousand for the second day, and 52 thousand for the third day.
This camp really matters for the NFL teams so that the coaches are able to evaluate their whole roster and make depth charts. They also matter towards the players so that the veterans who skipped voluntary mini camp can get integrated with the rookies.
So as the NFL season starts to come closer and closer, how well do you think your favorite team is going to do this year?
