3 Summer Activities On a High Schoolers Budget

By Laila Hicks

This summer, many teenagers are looking for fun activities to do. Whether it’s with family, friends, or just yourself.

A problem that may come with this, is not many teens have the money, or a budget to enjoy themselves.

It probably doesn’t seem like there are lots of things to do, but surprisingly, not a lot of activities cost as much money as you would expect. Here are a few things you can do to make this summer enjoyable while not spending much money.

     1. Beach days.

Going to the beach is always something fun to do during the summer that doesn’t require spending a lot of money. At the beach you can tan, enjoy the ocean, or maybe try out something new like boogie boarding. Some beaches even have beach volleyball which is always fun!

     2. Have a picnic.

Having a picnic could be a way to get outside and enjoy yourself during the summer. You might think you would need to have someone with you to make a picnic enjoyable, but just grabbing some of your favorite snacks, a blanket, and going to a park for a picnic can be a new and fun experience for you to do, which doesn’t cost much money.

     3. Six Flags

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, located in Vallejo, California, is one of the best bay area amusement parks.

Starting on May 22, 2026, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is opening for the season. This means that the park will be open every day! That is perfect for you to go with you and your friends or family, and enjoy the summer time while riding some of their scariest rides!

A one day ticket at Six Flags is $39 on their website, but prices can vary when buying in person. $39 for one ticket to go on any and every ride they offer sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

These activities are just 3 out of the many things you could do this summer on a high schoolers budget, while still having fun and having a good time with your friends and family.
