The Marvel Cinematic Universe, better known as the MCU has been around for years now. The MCU started with the release of Iron Man in May, 2 of 2008 and is still going. The MCU is 18 years old and not done yet. According to Kevin Feige the president of Marvel Studios, Avengers: Secret Wars releasing in december 17th of 2027 is the, ”soft reboot of the MCU” and will restart the MCU timeline. Does the MCU need a reboot? Just because something is old doesn’t mean it’s bad, Is that the case with the MCU? Let’s take a look at spider-man brand new day, the most recent MCU movie. According to rotten tomato’s spider-man brand new day scored a 98% from verified audience ratings. Spider-man brand new day raked in 2.232 billion dollars worldwide in the box office, this is after 11 years of Tom Holland being spider-man.
The statistics show that the MCU is doing pretty good so do they need a reboot? Well Tom Holland himself isn’t too interested in counting the role of spider-man anymore he’s ready to “pass the torch” on to another marvel hero. A lot of the actors who played the iconic marvel heroes are now old. Marvel fans want to see different depictions of their favorite characters and new actors to play the roles.The fans also want comic accuracy in the soft reboot of the MCU. The MCU has not been very comic accurate and has been toned down for larger audiences. The MCU timeline also may be confusing for some.
The MCU has 37 canon movies and 24 canon television shows. For a person to have a great understanding of the MCU it would take them 458 hours of watching MCU projects. A reboot would fix this issue. The MCU has had a great 18 years but most of the lowest rated movies have been released in the last 6 years. Most of the Marvel tv shows have not been well received, either people like it or not. The MCU is ready to go in a different direction. The MCU has already recast the new X-Men and has big plans for the new Avengers movies. The MCU is iconic and made lots of the newer generations childhoods but a reboot was inevitable.
