The toddler was reported to be playing with a ball in his purple shirt as he awaited the judge to give judgment. He was then told to file his own immigration forms or face possible prison time. The kid didn’t even know how to speak English and yet he is still on trial with no legal defence. But there is an unpaid lawyer who showed up to watch the trial but cannot help him due to government interference.
What caused this to happen? The simple answer was revealed in the trial by the judge. His father, an illegal immigrant from Honduras came to the US with his son, the father then subsequently left due to the persecution of immigrants, he believed the US would simply deport his son and send him to Honduras. But the judge does not want that to happen.
The more complicated answer stems back to the DOGE administration, when Trump had Elon Musk cut down everything deemed unnecessary. Trump cut the government’s funding to a law firm that would send lawyers to kids who need legal representation in immigration cases.
This trial of a kid staring down a court room and asked to file his own citizenship, is a systematic problem with the US right now, where we prioritize profit over humans. There is also the problem of the prosecution, murder, and illegal imprisonment of immigrants has caused hundreds of kids to be left behind. Alone and scared, waiting for their parents, with no one to help them.
That is what caused this our own lack of human indifference towards our fellow humans towards our neighbors. And yes you could say it’s the fathers fault, and the weight does lie on him for leaving the kid, anything after that is our fault.
