The current war in Iran has been raging on for over 200 days as of September 16th, 2026. As this war has been going on, the U.S and its ally Israel have received multiple messages of condemnation due to their violations of international law and threats of war crimes. These condemnations have come across the entire globe, from China to Europe. As this war drags on, it continues to become more and more unfavorable, becoming one of the biggest reasons for President Trump’s lower approval rating. One of the main problems of this war would end up being the Strait of Hormuz and its geopolitical and economical grip on the world.
The Strait of Hormuz has been blocked for the last 200 days due to the massive amounts of drone strikes and boardings the Iranian military has been doing. This tactic has used multiple companies to view the risk of going through the strait as not worth it. This small effect has caused the average price for a barrel of oil to sky rocket to $90. This price hike has been extremely detrimental to the global stock market with multiple stocks depreciating due to higher oil prices affecting the tire market.
To further show the detrimental effect of this war is that 20% of the world’s oil flows via that small passage. To stop this massive blockade by Iran, the United States has tried, along with Israel, to break said blockade by using bbs and a counter blockade to force Iran to stop. Yet, this use of air superiority and naval power is pointless without infantry or any other further escalation of warfare to break Iran, causing an extremely winnable siege on the Iranian side.
Due to the lack of progress and the unwillingness of the American public to support a full invasion of Iran, a series of diplomatic negotiations have taken place. Yet, this yielded no results, mainly due to the new ayatollah having his wife, father, sister, brother in law, son, and a 14 month old grandkid being killed in U.S and Israeli airstrikes. Due to the Ayatollahs loss of family mainly from U.S and Israel airstrikes, diplomacy has been incredibly difficult because of how personal the U.S made the war, making an already hardline regime even more hardlined. Even though some peace talks are being rumored, the Iranian regime is unlikely to end the war any time soon with oil prices most likely to continue to spike as long as the blockade lasts.
